Toni along with sisters first recorded 'The Good Life' and released in 1990. The track wasn't successful but attracted the attention of Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. They immediately signed her to LaFace Records. On 13 July 1993 she first released her self-titled debut album, "Toni Braxton". The singles, 'Another Sad Love Song', 'Breathe Again', 'You Mean the World to Me', 'Seven Whole Days', and 'How Many Ways' had all become smash hits eventually winning her several awards including 3 Grammy Awards for 'Best New Artist' in 1994 and 'Best Female R&B Vocal Performance' in 1995; and 2 American Music Awards in 1994 and 1995 consecutively. The debut album sold over ten million copies worldwide.
Her second album, "Secrets" released in 1996 saw similar success with the singles like 'You're Makin' Me High', 'How Could an Angel Break My Heart' featuring Kenny G, 'Un-Break My Heart' making it to the top of all musical charts in US, Europe and Asia. She has also co-written a couple of songs for the album. Her "Secrets" eventually won 2 Grammy Awards one for 'Best Female Pop Vocal Performance' and the other for 'Best Female R&B Vocal Performance'; and 2 American Music Awards.
Her third album "The Heat" released in April 2000 was co-produced and co-written by Braxton. Like her first two albums "The Heat" didn't generate much heat among the listeners but still managed to win a 2000 'Aretha Franklin Award' as 'Entertainer of the Year' at Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards. The music video containing a single 'He Wasn't Man Enough' featuring Robin Givens earned two nominations for MTV Video Music Awards. 'He Wasn't Man Enough' also won a Grammy Award for 'Best Female R&B Vocal'.
