Toni Braxton Personal Life

Toni Michelle Braxton was born on 7 October 1968 in Severn, Maryland, where she completed her middle school in Glen Burnie, and later went to Bowie State University to obtain a teaching degree but on second thoughts decided to pursue a musical career. Her father being a minister raised Braxton and her four sisters in strict religious order. The sisters weren't allowed to wear pants in the house nor listen to music other than gospel. But her interest in the music led her to sing in church choir, where her father was a minister. Toni used to sneak out to watch Soul Train music when her parents weren't around. It was her mother, a trained vocalist who encouraged Braxton to take up music as a career.

Due to her husky voice she often followed the singing styles of Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Michael McDonald.

Toni Braxton soon grew up into a professional singer and achieved tremendous popularity with her first two albums. After the early success of her first two albums, Braxton reportedly demanded more money from the Record Producers and refused to sing in the event her demands were not met. Finally in January 1998, she filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in US Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles on the grounds that her liabilities her exceeded her assets. But the music industry saw it as a ruse for her to nullify the existing contract with the Record Producers. The Record label too counter-sued Toni Braxton for breach of contract. But then as luck would have it the court decision went in favor of Toni Braxton. Consequently she had her signing amount increased to $25 million from Record Producers. She later moved to Blackground Records run by her former manager, Barry Hankerson for her fifth album "Libra".
